Custom Concept

The idea of the custom concept is to offer the opportunity to fine tune the construction of existing production model "pro skis" to better suit a specific need or requirement for a personal skiing style or construction preference.

We offer the ability to adjust elements of the core profile through the flex profile and total length of the core. We allow for alteration of the construction materials including fiberglass and lightweight full carbon substitutes. We will allow for custom graphic design upgrades that meet design requirements and are ultimately approved by Foon.

The Process

The production models designed by Foon have been developed over a number of years of testing and refinement. However, we know that skiing style is individual, unique and subjective to personal feeling.

We ask that all custom concept orders outline the idea and thought process behind the specific requirements and need for alteration. This description will help Foon better understand and translate your custom concept into the perfect ski made specifically for you. Custom project pricing starts from $1599.99

Step 1: Base Shape

Maverick- The maverick has it all big mountain skiing; new school shape combined with a wide underfoot platform and a long radius. Made for charging the biggest, steepest, gnarliest lines the mountain can throw at you with unchallenged stability. Indent in the tail to hold skins in place deep into the backcountry. 130-132-116-124-122 R33M

Shreddie- New school shape with a long 30M radius inspires slashing turns rather than carving. It will carve but with a long arc. Bringing a big mountain shape to a width that will work for anybody on any given day. 125-127-107-117-115 R30M

Redneck- No powder is too deep for the classic shape of the Redneck Superstar. A solid, fat charger never looked so fun! 155-123-135 R32M

Tyfoon- The perfect compromise for the one ski to do it all from charging resort runs to floating in the Pemberton backcountry. The wide tip and narrower tail keep the effortlessly floating in powder, 28.5M radius keeps the ski stable and predictable in any condition. 145-112-128 R28.5M

Moma Lisa- A tribute to the living legacy of Lisa Korthals. Designed to effortlessly adapt to the changing mountain terrain and conditions. 140-110-120 R24M

Neo- Developed from the classic shape of the Tyfoon but narrower for shallow snow conditions and the ability to shred the hard pack ski outs. Wider tip helps keep the ski afloat in the occasional deeper day! 134-101-117 R26.5M

Gretski- Tapered tip and tail for the new school shape along with a tight radius underfoot makes the Gretski versatile across all terrain. However, the shape was inspired by big backcountry days that require top performance in any condition. A shape that provides confidence with its ability to find grip on the steepest of slopes. Indent in the tail to hold skins in place deep into the backcountry. 121-125-99-115-111 R23M

Instrument- The Foon skinny ski, designed for inbound shredding. Carve it up all day with the tight radius of this classic shape. 128-93-113 R19M

Ginsu- Want to go tighter? The slalom ski on steroids. Fast and nimble. 132-84-120 R18M

Maverick / Shreddie: Shovel: 3 Camber: 0 Tail: 3

Redneck Superstar: Shovel: 2 Camber: 1 Tail: 2

Tyfoon/Moma Lisa/Neo: Shovel: 2 Camber: 2 Tail: 2

Gretski: Shovel: 3 Camber: 2 Tail: 2

Instrument/Ginsu: Shovel: 1 Camber: 3 Tail: 0.5

Step 2: Rocker Profile

Type 1 – Low and fast, max control for groomers and hard pack.

Type 2- The middle ground for keeping edge contact without suffering from sinking too deep on the softer days.

Type 3 – max rocker, suited for keeping those tips floating in deep conditions and minimise effective edge for a surfier feel.

Step 3: Camber Profile

Type 0 – Full rocker, surf all day in the deep pow!

Type 1 – Minimal camber to add a little spring to your ski.

Type 2 – Fun and playful in all conditions. Lay it over and push for extra snappy turns.

Type 3 – Push hard and carve top to bottom!

Step 4: Flex Profile

Soft- Tuning the core thinner for lighter riders or anyone looking for a little extra float from the tips. Buttering just became a whole lot easier.

Recommended – Each shape comes with the stiffness we think best suits the ski. Thinner for pow and touring a little thicker for everything else!

Stiff – Ideal for the larger skier or somebody who charges HARD.

Step 5: Layup

Carbon- Worried about weight? We can replace the upper layer of fiberglass with carbon to help reduce weight considerably. Found stock on our two touring skis; Maverick and Gretski. Usually combined with a thinner core to counteract the added stiffness of a carbon layer.

Fiberglass- The Foon classic layup. Damp and durable. This lets the handcrafted coast wood core speak truly throughout the ski.

Step 6: Custom Artwork Selection

We have a strong focus on partnering with local artists to ensure all our custom products not only maintain an authentic production process, but also an authentic aesthetic. Artists will receive a commission on every pair of custom skis adorned with their art.
